From Hobby To Business

Don’t tell MSC Moto owner Mark Cumming what he can and cannot do. Way back in 1995, Mark was told he could not make a steering damper. His combination of passion (and stubbornness), turned apart-time hobby into a full-time business, which eventually grew into one of the top steering dampers on the market today.

Fast forward a few decades and MSC Moto now has a growing team of technical specialists, most of whom have spent their whole lives riding and racing motorcycles. Motorcycling at MSC is more of an obsession than a job.

Everything is manufactured in Australia at their own workshop with a range of CNC Machining centers, lathes, grinding, EDM, and injection molding machines. The whole operation is manned by Mark and Vaughan Cumming.

The focus is always on quality over quantity as they keep a tight rein on every product that leaves the workshop. Testing is the name of the game when it comes to components like this. Each new design is tried and tested thoroughly by the staff. Once the staff has completed their rounds, the testing graduates to a select group of top-level pro riders and teams for intense evaluation before making the new design available to thepublic.

Family Affair

Mark Cumming is an accomplished designer and qualified toolmaker of 35 years. He earned an "Australian Design Award" for his Magna Latch and Self Closing Hinge designs back in1990. After a 10-year break from racing motorcycles in 1994 Mark got a dose of the racing bug again. He purchased a Suzuki RMX250 and never looked back. He competed at the state, national and international level including a top 20 silver medal finish at the 1998 ISDE. Today Mark spends his spare time riding his much-loved Suzuki GSXR1000 and Yamaha YZF450.

Simone is the real boss! Her days are spent wearing many caps and keeping the operation running smoothly. Being a grandmother doesn't slow Simone down either. You can find her tearing up the local roads on her KTM990 Super Duke. That's right, a super bike riding grandmother.

Mark’s son Vaughn has been machining metal in his Dad’s shop since he was a boy. Vaughn has grown into a highly skilled toolmaker and machinist. He’s also an accomplished racer and rider. Spending years on the ADB Magazine test crew and taking home a number of major awards.
