Out of the box, the product looks and feels excellent. Installation was straightforward. Wall thickness of the socket used to retorque the steering stem nut is critical, as an impact socket was too thick to clear the MSC bracket and get to the nut flats. Had to run out and source another 30mm socket with a thinner wall. Looking forward to riding and testing settings, as this was purchased specifically to control deflection caused by rocks and roots, and to better manage sandy conditions.
First, the ease of installation. Took me less than 30 min and did not have to remove the top triple clamp.
Second, the unit keeps the same tension all the way from left to right, which is great for the type of riding I have done. And wide range of adjustability.
Last year, a friend of mine (also with an Africa twin) and I did the Idaho BDR from Canada and into part of the Nevada BDR. Where this unit showed me it's value, was when we were going down a steep trail with softball size loose, sharp rocks. I made it down without dumping the bike. My friend ended up dumping his bike part way down, so I took it the rest of the way down for him. Holy @%$#, I barely kept it under control and had to almost walk it down. Handlebars all over the place.
It also performs great on med to deep gravel. Roads I have travelled previously, I can go 10 to 20 mph faster than before and feel more stable. I had no idea how well it worked until I rode another bike. It has great adjustability, takes a little figuring out proper settings, but can be done easily on the fly without slowing down.

This is my second AT MSC steering dampener as the first was sold with my previous AT. I have other brand steering dampeners on other bikes but they don’t have that simple, subtle feel or are as compact as these MSC models. All the hardware and brackets are top notch and fit precisely together and very simple. I would buy this again. Thumbs up.
